AI for MEP design

Artificial Intelligence has captivated most parts of our living today. It has manifolded in its manifestations and has become a favourite method backing the inventions in engineering. It’s incredible usability is much talked about even in the con-tech space and rightfully so, after all its allowed the MEP process to be coolly convenient. So, let’s understand how AI is becoming the backbone of construction.

Coming to the basics. AI or artificial intelligence as it is popularly known as, is an advanced technological tool that supports processes by performing functions that would ideally be carried on by a human. Whereas MEP or mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering as it is popularly known as, refers to the main building and designing part in the construction process that involves all the electrical placements, plumbing fixtures and mechanical holdings. It is a key aspect of the construction process that makes a building functional.

Now with the advent of advanced computational technicalities in the construction world, many steps in the building process are depending on artificial intelligence. AI-powered machines are being used for MEP drawings and building mapping. These AI generated MEP designs are helping architects, engineers and designers to identify the best layout solutions for a building or space that is being or going to be constructed. Here, the significant role that AI plays in MEP is that it addresses the target needs of the construction in place and effectively suggests plausible solutions that would bring it to fruition.

While AI helps in many areas of construction, when it comes to MEP, below are some of the key ways in which it has proven to be beneficial:

  1. Target-addressing planning

MEP generated layouts are automated and easy to produce. In each layout print, the target addressal is improved upon and therefore, MEP planning is done aiming at all the specific needs of construction.

  1. Cost prediction

Since AI helps in designing the whole building- its materials and placement, it also helps in predicting the costs that can typically be borne for the whole production. This, therefore helps in planning the budget of the construction.

  1. Productive building

The AI predicted MEP plans for the building process helps in making the construction as need-based as possible. Each step is devised in such a manner that maximum efficiency is employed and human effort is minimised.

  1. Effective designing

The MEP designing task is a complex one and AI simplifies it with its competitive calculations. This helps in producing effective building designs that are concise and can be accurately executed, with minimum to no human error taking place.

AI has step foot in different arenas of the engineering world and it is surely here to stay. As far as MEP is considered, AI will definitely remain to be productive in this space as it will not only continue to cater the benefits we mentioned above, but it will also leave a growing impression of sustainability. MEP that will utilize AI will surely contribute to a greener future and thus, will expansively help in making the construction process an environment-friendly one.
